The 10th annual Cowley Cub Club Cheerleading Clinic for boys and girls
ages 4-15, will be held Jan. 30 at the Old Total Club House, located
at 1504 South M Street, across from Sleeth Ball Park in Arkansas City.
The yearly event brings in around 100 cheerleaders from around South
Central Kansas and the Oklahoma area. All participants will learn cheers,
chants, dance, tumbling, stunts, and also put a routine together. All
skills will be taught by former Cowley College cheer coach Kristi Shaw
and current cheer coach Rikki Hettenbach. All skills will be taught
on a 42x42 spring floor mat. The clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to
2 p.m.
Clinic participants will need to bring a sack lunch and a bottle of water.
Names need to be on both items.
The Hawaiian them “Cowley Surfin it Up” will be performed
at halftime of the Cowley men’s basketball game vs. Coffeyville
on Feb. 1. Each cheerleading participant will receive a cheerleading
t-shirt, a tattoo, game admittance, cheer instruction, pop and popcorn
at the game as well as a cheer certificate.
Game night participants will need to wear their new “Surfs Up” shirt
with black shorts and white tennis shoes. Cheerleaders will need to arrive
at 6:30 p.m. dressed and ready to go.
Cheerleading participants will be admitted free. General admission for
parents and guests. A Cowley cheerleader will escort the Cub Club members
to their designated seating area upon arrival.
The cost to register is $35 with the deadline to enter being Jan. 25.
