Who We Are...
The Tigerettes were founded in 1988
by Lana Sleeper as a student organization. However, in the
1989 school year, the Tigerettes became an official support/spirit
group for Cowley County athletics. Since then, the dance
team has become one of Cowley’s
brightest traditions. The team consists of 20-30 young ladies
that wish to continue their dance careers while entertaining
the sport fans at Cowley College’s basketball games.
The Tigerettes are under its second director, Lindsay Sanderholm.
Cowley offers two dance teams to accommodate dancers of all
levels. The Tigerette Danceline is for dancers with advanced
technical skills. The Danceline performs a variety of styles
including hip-hop, high kick, novelty, and advanced jazz. Most
of the team has had prior dance training or has been a member
of a high school or all star dance team. The Tigerette Pom
Squad is for dancers at the beginning to intermediate level.
The Pom Squad performs a variety of styles ranging from pom
to hip-hop to novelty. Prior experience is not required to
audition for the team. Some cheerleading and/or dance team
experience is recommended.
What We Do...
The Tigerette Danceline and Pom Squad
perform dance routines during timeouts and halftime of all
men’s and women’s
home basketball games. The teams also cheer on the sidelines
during the games. In addition to performing at basketball,
the Cowley Tigerettes have the opportunity to participate in
other special events. The danceline has performed at Wichita
State basketball games and the National VICA conference at
Century II in Wichita. In 2004, the team traveled to Louisville,
Kentucky to perform at the 52nd Annual Breakfast of the American
Angus Beef Auxiliary. The team also performs at various community
events and parades during the year. Members have also been
invited to model at the Arkalalah Queen’s Tea, Safe Homes
Benefit Show, and the Ducks Unlimited Dinner/Auction.
Financial Aid...
Cowley offers full tuition and book dance scholarships to
all Tigerettes that qualify. Members must maintain a 2.5 cumulative
grade point average and be a full-time Cowley student. A $500
Academic Bonus is awarded to members with a 3.5 and above grade
point average. This bonus can be received each semester the
student is attending Cowley and participating on the team.
Dance scholarships are available to Kansas and Oklahoma residents.
Other out-of-state students should contact the coach for scholarship
opportunities. Cowley provides all performances uniforms, poms,
