
Del Heidebrecht was
Mr. Basketball for Arkansas City Junior College in the late 1950s.
He earned All-America status in 1958, the same year he was voted the
Most Valuable Player in the Jayhawk Conference. He was the leading
scorer in the Jayhawk Conference that year, and is tied for Cowley’s single-game scoring record
with 49 points against Hutchinson on Jan. 21, 1958. He still holds Cowley’s
career scoring record with 1,323 points from 1956-58. He went on to earn
All-Big Eight honors at the University of Oklahoma in 1960, and served
as president of the “O” Club. He also was a successful high
school coach, earning Coach of the Year honors in 1977 while at Derby
High School.
