Lafayette Norwood, Class of 1954, was a standout basketball player in 1953 and 1954. An All-American in 1953, Norwood led the Tigers to a runner-up finish at the national tournament that year. He was joined in the starting lineup that season by three other Hall of Fame inductees: Ray Potter, J.C. Louderback, and Jim Reed. After ACJC, Norwood went on to Heights High School in Wichita, where he coached standouts Darnell Valentine and Antoine Carr. He was on Ted Owens’ staff at KU four seasons, and since 1981 has been at Johnson County Community College, serving as basketball coach and golf coach. In 1994, Norwood received the Outstanding Tiger Alumni Award from Cowley.
