In 25 years of coaching the pole vault,
Cowley College head track and field coach Mark Phillips has coached 49
NJCAA All-Americans, nine national champions and two national record
holders including 2010 national indoor champion, Katie Gillmore and 2008
national indoor champion, David Starnes. Phillips is passing on his knowledge
of the event during this week’s pole vault clinic held at the Cowley

Tiger men capture fourth straight outdoor conference title
Getting tremendous performances throughout its roster, the Cowley College men’s track and field team won its fourth straight outdoor conference title and finished as the runners-up in the region at the Region VI/Jayhawk Conference meet held Thursday through Saturday in Overland Park. Cowley finished 56 points better thansecond place Coffeyville (218-162) in the Jayhawk East team standings, while finishing only 22 2/3 points (178-155 1/3) behind Barton County in the region. “We had a phenomenal performance,” Cowley head coach Mark Phillips said. “On paper we were 50 point underdogs to Barton County going in to the meet. I had no idea we would make it as close as we did.”
Tiger decathlete signs with Wichita State Coming from Sharon (OK) Mutual High School as an accomplished high jumper/hurdler, Cowley College sophomore Mac Griffith has transformed himself into one of the top decathletes the school has ever had. He recently used his success to land a scholarship to compete at Wichita State University.
Custar signs with nationally respected track program Looking to continue his progression as a runner in the hopes of competing at the Olympic Trials in 2012, Cowley College sophomore Jory Custar recently signed a letter of intent to run track at NAIA powerhouse Oklahoma Baptist University.
Mettler to join former Tiger runners at University of Arkansas at Little Rock Preparing to leave Cowley College as one of the most
successful American born runners in the program’s history, Dustin
Mettler signed a letter of intent to run cross county and track at
the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
