Cheerleading tryouts to take place April 10

Cowley College is having 2010-2011 cheerleading tryouts on Saturday, April 10 at 5 p.m. Tryouts will be held at W.S. Scott Auditorium, located on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Second Street in Arkansas City.

If there are conflicts with this date, you may reschedule a private try out. For more information, please contact cheerleading head coach Rikki Hettenbach at 620-441-5311 or at hettenbachr@cowley.edu.

Try outs will consist of the following:

• Cheer from home (we are looking at your cheer technique, voice and crowd appeal)
  
• Short dance (should be at least four 8 counts-bring your music-we are looking at your facials and dance motion technique)
  
• Three jumps-your choice (we are looking at jump technique, height and execution)
  
• We want to see your best tumbling skills
  
• Tumbling is a requirement this year

Participants will stunt after try-outs with the other cheerleaders both basing and flying.

One major aspect coach Hettenbach looks for is a good attitude and willingness to work with her and others on the squad.

If you are a Kansas or Oklahoma resident, have a 2.5 GPA or better you are eligible for a full books and tuition scholarship. If you have a 3.5 GPA or better you may receive an extra $500.00.
