Off and running

Helping athletes from all sports become more efficient in their running technique and faster in their running ability, Cowley College track and field head coach Mark Phillips is conducting a speed development clinic at the Tiger Track and Field Complex.

Camp participants will learn new drills and routines. Video analysis is also being used to help the athletes. In 25 years of coaching sprints, Phillips has coached 72 NJCAA All-Americans.

Gillmore leaves mark on Cowley track and field program

Shooting for the stars! Leaving Cowley College as the top women’s pole vaulter in the history of the program, Katie Gillmore will look to continue her incredible success as a member of the track and field team at Wichita State University.

Cowley conducts first ever Throws Camp

Helping beginning as well as experienced throwers to learn to throw safely and efficiently using technique drills and event specific drills, two-time NJCAA national champion and current Cowley College track and field assistant coach, Courtney Gougler, worked with individuals at the Cowley Throws Camp.  read more

Vaulting their way to the top

In 25 years of coaching the pole vault, Cowley College head track and field coach Mark Phillips has coached 49 NJCAA All-Americans, nine national champions and two national record holders including 2010 national indoor champion, Katie Gillmore and 2008 national indoor champion, David Starnes. Phillips is passing on his knowledge of the event during this week’s pole vault clinic held at the Cowley College Track Complex.

Lady Tiger track and field team captures outdoor conference and region titles

Led by six conference and region champions, the Cowley College women’s track and field team finished as the conference and region champions at the Region VI/Jayhawk Conference meet held Thursday through Saturday in Overland Park.

The meet was quite the turnaround from last year when the Lady Tigers placed sixth in the region.

“Our group of young ladies that were freshmen last year were very motivated,” said Cowley head coach Mark Phillips, who was named the Region VI Women’s Outdoor Track Coach of the Year. “We also had a wonderful group of freshmen come in and follow the sophomore leadership.”

Ray named Female Student Athlete of the Year

Robin Ray is a pre-med major that grew up in McAlester, OK. She recently signed a letter of intent to run cross country and track at the University of Oklahoma.

Along with her success as a member of the cross country and track and field teams at Cowley, Ray is also involved in Phi Theta Kappa, Math and Science club, ACES, IMPACT and intramurals. She also serves as a student ambassador, Cowley Captain, and Cowley tutor. She was named the IMPACT Student of the Year as a freshman and was this year’s October Student Athlete of the Month, and December Student of the Month. She also was chosen for a Member Award for her work with PTK, and was nominated for the Cowley College Student of the Year award.

Burley signs to run at Kansas Wesleyan

Having accomplished great things during her cross country and track career at Cowley College, sophomore Cecilia Burley will look to continue her success when she begins running for Kansas Wesleyan University next season.
