Bio

Now in his ninth season with Cowley College, Glenwood Edwards Jr. is the assistant coach and throws specialist for the men’s and women’s track and field programs. A cornerstone of the Tigers’ coaching staff, Edwards has been instrumental in guiding the program to multiple conference championships, including back-to-back men’s and women’s outdoor titles in 2022 and 2023, along with women’s indoor and outdoor crowns in 2024 and 2025.

During his tenure, Edwards has helped Cowley athletes thrive at the national level, producing 107 national qualifiers, 36 All-Americans, four national runner-ups, and two NJCAA national champions — Chloe Wilson (hammer throw, 2020–2022) and Trevor Green (hammer throw, 2021–2023).

A Baltimore County, Maryland native, Edwards was a standout thrower at Lansdowne High School, where he captured a state championship in the shot put and placed 10th at the Nike Outdoor High School Nationals. He began his collegiate career at Barton County Community College, contributing to two national indoor championship teams and one national outdoor title team. He also became a two-time Region VI indoor shot put champion and the 2004 national runner-up in the event.

He continued his success at the University of Memphis, where he claimed back-to-back Conference USA indoor and outdoor shot put titles and qualified for the NCAA Mid-East Regionals in 2007 and 2008. Edwards graduated from Memphis with a bachelor’s degree in 2008 after helping the Tigers secure conference team championships.

Edwards launched his coaching career at Morgan State University, mentoring standout thrower Allison Randall, who became the first Morgan State athlete to qualify for the NCAA Division I Nationals and later competed for Jamaica in the 2012 Olympics. Before joining Cowley, he spent six seasons as the throws coach at Winfield High School (KS), where he developed 14 state qualifiers and seven state medalists.

Away from the track, Edwards enjoys life with his wife, Stephanye, their daughter Marion, and their three pitbulls.
