Tiger pitchers strike out 29 batters in pair of victories over Coffeyville

With starting pitchers Grant Adler and Logan Kimbro providing dominant outings on the mound, the No. 11-ranked Cowley College baseball team took the first two games of a four-game series against Coffeyville by scores of 5-1 and 1-0 Thursday in Arkansas City.

Cowley, winners of six games in a row, is now 18-5 overall and 9-1 in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division. Coffeyville drops to 13-9 overall and 5-5 in conference play.

"It was good to get two wins," Cowley head coach Darren Burroughs said. "Got quality starts from both starters and bullpen did a good job."

Adler struck out 11 and walked only one while earning the victory in game one. Adler allowed only one hit and one run in six innings pitched as he improved his record to 4-0 on the season.

Tiger reliever Isaac Stebens struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh as Coffeyville batters struck out 14 times in the game.

First baseman Conner Gore had three of Cowley's 10 hits. Gore was a homer shy of hitting for the cycle as he scored twice and drove in a run.

"Conner had a good first game at the plate," Burroughs said.

In game two, Coffeyville starting pitcher Kinson Michel and Kimbro were locked in a pitchers dual. Kimbro allowed only one baserunner in five innings pitched, while striking out seven and walking none. However, he would earn a no-decision as the game would remain tied through eight and half innings of play.

Carson Pierce relieved Kimbro on the mound and struck out six over three scoreless innings to keep the game scoreless. Miguel Fulgencio (3-0) followed with a 1-2-3 ninth inning as Tiger pitchers struck out 15 batters and walked none in game two.

With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth, Ty Hammack led off the inning with a double. Four batters later, Bryce Madron singled home Hammack with the winning run. Madron and Hammack had two hits apiece.

Cowley will play a doubleheader at Coffeyville Saturday starting at 1 p.m. The Tigers have out-scored opponents 51-7 during its current win streak.
