Fittro, Sems named Gold Glove winners
Cowley College centerfielder Drake Fittro and shortstop Josiah Sems are among nine individuals from six Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference baseball teams to have earned the highest defensive honor awarded by the conference by being named Gold Glove award winners at their positions.
The honors are awarded following a vote by league coaches: each coach nominates players from their own team, and all league head coaches then vote at each position.
Three teams (Cowley, Johnson County, and Kansas City, Kansas) lead the way with two selections each, while Coffeyville, Colby, and Neosho County each have one player on the Gold Glove team. Three players on this year's team recorded perfect fielding percentages at their position (Drake Fittro, Cutter Colvert, and Will Kennedy), with Fittro having the most total chances of the three players to record perfect fielding percentages (107 total chances). Collectively, the nine players on the Gold Glove team recorded a .986 fielding percentage in 1,611 total chances, with 1,264 total putouts and 325 assists.
