Eight Tigers sign to play basketball at four-year schools
Following the success of a conference and region title, and a trip to the Elite 8 at the NJCAA Division I Basketball National Championships, eight Cowley College men’s basketball players recently signed letters of intent to play at four-year schools.
Freshman Marcus Whitlock Jr, the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division Most Valuable Player and Newcomer of the Year recipient, signed with NCAA Division I Middle Tennessee State. Whitlock was also named a First Team All-American after averaging 16 points and 3.9 rebounds during the 2024-25 season. He shot 42.3 percent from three-point range and helped the Tigers to a record of 30-5.
Shamarrie Hugie, a Second Team all-conference selection who averaged 14.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game as a sophomore, signed with NCAA Division I Marshall University.
Marcus Zeigler, a Second Team All-Conference selection, signed with an NCAA Division II school, the University of Central Oklahoma. Zeigler averaged 10.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists.
Avante Nichols, another Second Team All-Conference performer, signed with NCAA Division II Drury University. Nichols averaged 9.5 points and 4.4 rebounds during the 2024-25 season.
Dallas Whitney, an honorable mention selection after averaging 10.1 points and 4.9 rebounds, signed with NCAA Division II UNC-Pembroke.
Emarquis Jones, a 6'6'' sophomore, signed with Goldey-Beacom, an NCAA Division II program in Delaware. Jones played his best basketball at the end of the season and averaged 6.2 points and
A 6'1'' sophomore, Xavier Alexander signed with NAIA school Sterling University. Alexander shot 48.3 percent from three-point range (14-of-29) and averaged 3.1 points per game.
Lastly, a 6'5" freshman, Teagan Charles, signed with NAIA school Kansas Wesleyan University.
"I'm very proud of all the young men who have committed to their respective four-year universities," Cowley head basketball coach Donnie Jackson said. "They poured a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into their time here at Cowley. It was a magical ride this past season, and I am thankful for their dedication to our program. I can't wait to follow the next step in their academic and athletic careers."
