Cowley scores season-high in points in 111-59 win over Southwestern JV
Cracking the century mark for the second consecutive game, the No. 10-ranked Cowley College men’s basketball team defeated the Southwestern College JV 111-59 on Thursday night inside W.S. Scott Auditorium.
The win improves Cowley's record to 5-0.
After a slow start, which saw the Tigers trailing 10-3, Cowley answered with a 15-0 run to lead 18-10 following a three-point play by freshman Xavier Vickerstaff. A three-pointer by Vickerstaff would increase the Tigers' lead to 38-18, and Cowley shot 56 percent in the opening half while building a 56-32 halftime advantage.
The Moundbuilders' Ethan Harmon went 4-of-6 from three-point range and scored 17 first-half points. However, 15 first-half turnovers helped put SC in a 24-point halftime deficit.
Cowley scored the first seven points of the second half and led by as many as 54 points in the win.
Tiger guards Marcus Smith and CJ Majors had 20 points apiece, while Smith added six assists and six steals.
Freshman Chase Robinson came off the bench to add 14 points on 6-of-6 shooting from the floor as the Tigers shot 56.3 percent from the floor. All 11 Tigers who saw playing time scored in the victory.
"It was good to get everyone an opportunity for some extra playing time," Cowley head coach Donnie Jackson said.
Sophomore Kyden Thompson finished with a career-high 13 assists in only 19 minutes of action.
Cowley forced the Builders into 35 turnovers.
Harmon finished with 19 points to lead Southwestern, while Luke Peffer added 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Tigers will remain home to face Murray State (3-2) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
"This is our final test to gear up for conference play," Jackson said. "We need to correct many things come Tuesday."
