Red-hot Trojans sweep series with the Lady Tiger softball team
After dropping a pair of home games against Seminole State College (OK) on Friday, the Cowley College softball team suffered a couple of road defeats while facing the Trojans on Saturday in Seminole, OK. The Lady Tigers dropped Friday’s doubleheader by scores of 7-1 and 8-4 before losing on Saturday by scores of 6-5 and 8-0.
Cowley is now 10-14 on the season. Seminole State, ranked No. 17 in the NJCAA Division I poll, has now won 15 games in a row to improve to 21-3.
On Friday in Ark City, Seminole's Brittani Murray held Cowley to only three hits and one run in six innings as the Trojans won the opener 7-1.
Sophomore Breanna Curry had two of Cowley's four hits in the loss of game one, while Dacey Morris allowed eight hits and six earned runs in six innings pitched.
Seminole's Kaitlyn Simpson homered and tripled out of the leadoff spot as the Trojans hit three home runs and had six extra-base hits.
In Friday's second game, Cowley trailed 5-1 before scoring three runs in the bottom of the third to pull within 5-4. However, Seminole would score two more runs in the fourth inning and one more in the sixth to win 8-4.
Lady Tiger starting pitcher Hannah Howard (3-2) allowed 11 hits and eight runs in 5 2/3 innings.

The teams resumed their four-game series by playing a doubleheader in Seminole, OK, on Saturday.
Cowley held leads of 2-0 and 3-1 before needing to score a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at 5-5. However, the Trojans scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
Cowley out-hit Seminole 12-9 and was led by Clay, going 3-for-4 with a run batted in and a run scored.
Murray (6-1) relieved Maliyah Carney on the mound and earned the win by allowing only one unearned run in 4 2/3 innings of relief. Kylie Cartwright earned the start for Cowley and allowed four hits and three earned runs in 5 2/3 innings. Cartwright also walked five and failed to strike out a batter. Madison Baker (1-3) came in to pitch in relief of Cartwright and took the loss.
"Kylie gave us a strong enough performance in the circle for us to win the game; we just didn't capitalize on our opportunities to score baserunners when needed throughout the game," Cowley head coach Jenny Hoyt said. "We hit pretty well, we just couldn't come up with a big hit when we needed it."
The final game lasted only five innings with the Trojans earning the 8-0, run-rule win.
Major bounced back from her poor performance on Friday to allow only two hits in five innings. Morris (5-6) had one of the Tigers' two hits, but took the loss on the mound after allowing six hits and six earned runs in 4 2/3 innings pitched.
