In anticipation of the region and conference meet on October 25, the Cowley College men's and women's cross country teams hosted the Tiger Preview on Saturday morning at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield.
"We have been wanting to host a meet for some time now, so we are grateful to the Kansas Veterans Home for letting us use its course," Cowley head coach Cameron Rieth said.
Other schools at the meet were Hutchinson, Garden City, Butler, Barton, Coffeyville, Cloud, Colby, Highland, Neosho, Allen, Crowder, and Southwestern College.
Butler Community College's Emmanuel Otim won the men's 8,000-meter race with a time of 23:12.01. The top 15 runners in the men's and women's races were honored following the meet.
Otim helped the Butler Community College men place first, while the Tiger men finished fifth out of nine teams.
Cowley was led by sophomore Miquel Cruz placing 11th in the men's race with a time of 24:45.43.
"Our men's team went off with six of our seven runners having monster personal best times," Rieth said. "This was easily our men's team's best meet."
Hutchinson Community College's Faith Jepchirchir won the women's 5,000-meter race with a time of 16:55.33. Crowder College was the top team finisher on the women's side, while the Lady Tigers placed fourth out of five teams.
Cowley was led by freshman Lili-Rose Breheret finishing 17th with a time of 19:59.09.
"It was good to see Lili break 20 minutes for the first time, but as a team, we still need to get better," Rieth said.
Cowley will return to the Kansas Veterans Home to host the region and conference meet at 10 a.m. Friday, October 25.
"We will have a tall task in the region, but our second time running the course should allow us to adapt to how we should run," Rieth said.
