Cowley softball team splits home doubleheader vs. NOC-Tonkawa
Returning to action for the first time in a week, the Cowley College softball team split a doubleheader against NOC-Tonkawa on Tuesday at Ed Hargrove Field in Arkansas City, KS. The Lady Tigers won the opener 10-3 before losing 10-9 in the nightcap.

Cowley is now 16-8, and NOC is 8-16
The Mavericks got the scoring started in game one by belting a two-run homer off Lady Tiger starting pitcher Mikah Vann in the top of the first inning.
Krisyana Pellet would help Cowley get one of the runs back when she blasted a solo home-run off Jordan Johnson leading off the bottom of the second inning. Later in the inning, the Lady Tigers would tie the game at 2-2 on a run-scoring sacrifice fly by Paige Scanlin and grabbed the lead at 3-2 on an RBI single by Alissa Nuno.
NOC's Maggie Glasgow would tie the game at 3-3 on her solo home run with one out in the top of the third inning.
Both teas would strand runners in scoring position over the next two innings before Cowley sophomore Kanon Goji tripled leading off the bottom of the fifth and scored the go-ahead run on an RBI infield single by Bre Curry. One batter later, shortstop Taverli Tennant hit a two-run homer to increase the Lady Tigers' lead to 6-3.
Cowley would tack on two more runs in a five-run fifth inning that would chase Johnson from the mound.
Tennant added a second two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to cap Cowley's 10-3 win of game one.
After a rocky start to the game, Vann settled down to go the distance on the mound. Vann allowed six hits and three runs to improve her record to 9-2.
Tennant continued to swing a hot bat in game two, blasting a three-run homer in the bottom of the third inning to give Cowley a 3-0 lead.
Sophomore transfer Ezra Arredondo started game two for the Lady Tigers and cruised through three innings before surrendering a pair of home runs in a six-run fourth inning for the Mavericks.
Cowley answered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth off NOC starting pitcher Makenzie Wilson to tie the game at 6-6.
Madison Baker came on to pitch the fifth inning for Cowley and surrendered a go-ahead RBI double to Jordison Ackerman as the Lady Mavericks went in front 7-6.
The Lady Tigers would benefit from back-to-back Maverick errors to score a run in the bottom of the fifth inning and tie the game at 7-7.
Glasgow would reclaim the lead for NOC at 8-7 as she led off the sixth inning with the Mavericks' third homer of the game.
Once again, Cowley answered back as Jamie Molina's double scored Pellet in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 8-8.
Glasgow came through again for NOC in the top of the eighth, this time hitting a two-run double off Mikah Vann, who came back in relief of Baker.
Down 10-8, Tennant crushed her fourth home run of the doubleheader and second of the game, pulling Cowley within 10-9. However, the Tigers could not complete the comeback as Wilson went all eight innings on the mound for the Mavericks.
Tennant went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI as both teams finished with 13 hits. Tennant now has seven home runs, 46 RBI, and a .525 batting average.
Cowley will attempt to bounce back when they play a doubleheader at Pratt on Monday at 2 p.m. The Lady Tigers are 3-0 vs. Pratt this season.
