Despite having a record of 20-23 overall and 8-10 in the Jayhawk Conference, the Red Devils handed conference-leading Neosho County its lone conference loss on April 12 and Cowley just its second conference defeat as the Lady Tigers are now 32-12 overall and 14-2 in the Jayhawk East.
On Thursday, Cowley rolled to a 7-1 victory in game one thanks to the bat of freshman Taverli Tennant and the arm of sophomore Mikah Vann.
Tennant homered twice and drove in three runs, while Vann struck out 10 and allowed only three hits and no earned runs in the complete game victory. Tennant leads Cowley in nearly every offensive category while batting .507 with 15 home runs and 71 batted in.
Allen's starting pitcher, Camrynn Yardley, allowed nine hits and five earned runs in six innings.
Cowley trailed 4-0 in game two before rallying to tie the game at 4-4. However, Yardley returned to pitch with one out in the bottom of the fourth and retired eight of the nine batters she faced to go along with six strikeouts.
Lady Tiger starting pitcher Ezra Arredondo went the first five innings and allowed seven hits and three earned runs before giving way to Vann (18-5), who tossed a scoreless sixth inning before allowing the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh.
Cowley had an opportunity to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning when Paige Scanlin advanced to second base on an error by Yardley with nobody out. Following a strikeout by Tennant, Scanlin stole third before Yardley struck out Aubrey Williams and Krisyana Pellet to strand Scanlin at third and end the Tigers' nine-game winning streak.
Cowley will venture on the road to play a doubleheader at No. 20-ranked Kansas City Kansas Community College on Saturday at 1 p.m. before playing a doubleheader at 17th-ranked Neosho County on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
