Conference champs! Lady Tigers clinch conference title with shutout victories over Cloud
Shutting out Cloud County in both games of a doubleheader played Thursday at Ed Hargrove Field, the No. 20-ranked Cowley College softball team celebrated the conference title on its home field. The Lady Tigers, winners of 15 of their past 16 games, defeated Cloud County 11-0 and 8-0 to finish the regular season with a record of 38-12 and 20-2 in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division.

"I am proud of the players for how hard they competed on the road and at home this season in our conference," Cowley head coach Jenny Hoyt said. "It is rewarding to see how hard our players have worked this season. I am proud of our sophomores for having the leadership to guide the team to receive this award."
In game one, Cowley got a three-run homer from Krisyana Pellet in the bottom of the first inning, and Paige Scanlin added a three-run blast in an eight-run third as Cowley cruised to the 11-0 victory. The homer for Scanlin was her 11th of the season, while Pellet has 10.
Mikah Vann allowed only one hit while improving her record to 21-5. The sophomore is 9-0 over her last nine starts and has allowed only 19 hits and eight runs in 60 innings.
In game two, Cowley got another strong start on the mound from Ezra Arredondo, who allowed only four hits in six shutout innings. Arredondo (14-3) helped her cause at the plate by going 3-for-4 with a home run and three runs scored.
Raelynn Sandlin added a pair of doubles, and Kanon Goji went 4-for-4 with a double batting out of the nine-hole.
Cloud County finishes the regular season with a record of 16-28 and 7-15 in the conference.
Cowley will now prepare to compete at the Region Tournament on May 6-9 in Overland Park, KS. The Tigers will open play on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
"I don't want time to end with this group of players," Hoyt said. "Our vision going into this tourney has to be to do everything with a purpose and be locked into the moment. We need to play together and for each other with a higher purpose.
