Lady Tigers have a game they would like to forget in a 104-55 loss at Seward
Allowing Seward County to shoot 56.5 percent, the Cowley College women’s basketball team suffered one of its most lopsided losses in recent memory in a 104-55 defeat on Saturday in Liberal, KS.
Seward (19-10) remains in fifth place in the Jayhawk Conference with a record of 14-9. Cowley (14-15) is in ninth place in the conference at 10-13 with one regular-season game remaining.
On Saturday, the Saints closed the first quarter on a 14-0 run to lead 21-6 and never looked back in the 49-point win.
Seward's lead would grow to 41-18 at the end of the first half as Cowley shot only 5-of-27 in the game's first 20 minutes of play.
Cowley continued to battle, scoring 26 third-quarter points on 12-of-12 shooting from the foul line. However, Seward erupted for 34 points in the quarter and scored 63 second-half points on 58 percent shooting.
The Saints' Avery Marchino went 6-of-9 from three-point range and led five Seward players in double figures with 30 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, and three steals.
Aniyah Burney led Cowley with 18 points, while Megan Simon added 10.
The Lady Tigers will return home to face Barton County on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The Cougars are 14-15 overall and 12-11 in the conference.
