Assistant Coach

Bio

Vance Lee begins his second season at Cowley College and his 33^rd coaching basketball in Kansas.  

Lee, with stops at Beloit/St. Johns (Boys), White City (Boys), Chase Rural (Girls), and Hutchinson/Trinity (Girls) amassed over 200 wins and garnered 3 Coach of the Year Awards in his 16 years as a Kansas High School Head Coach. 

Beginning his coaching career at Washburn Rural High School (boys) in Topeka as a sophomore head coach and assistant coach for the varsity. He also had assistant stops at Pratt/Skyline (boys and girls), Maize South (boys and girls), and Wichita/Bishop Carroll (boys). While at Bishop Carroll as varsity assistant, Lee helped the Golden Eagles to their first boys’ basketball GWAL Championships back-to-back and their first State Championship. During his time at Trinity High School in Hutchinson as head coach, the Lady Celtics won their first two HOA Championships and made a second state tournament in school history. 

He was also an assistant men’s coach at Pratt Community College from 1995 to 1997. 

Before getting into coaching, Lee played basketball at Pratt Community College and St. Mary of the Plains College. 

In his first season at Cowley, he helped the Lady Tigers win 21 games and have their best finish since the 2019-2020 season. 

He and his wife, Kelly, a past Kansas University Softball All-American Catcher, have sons Brennen and Wakon, his wife Maddi, and granddaughter Avyn.
