Coming to Cowley College from Bogota, Colombia, sophomore midfielder Natalya Rubiano has made the most of her two years at the school. The co-captain of the Lady Tiger soccer team recently signed a letter of intent to continue her playing career at NCAA Division II Shaw University in North Carolina once her time at Cowley is over.
Rubiano started 11 games as a freshman and registered two goals and two assists. The Lady Tigers finished her freshman season with a record of 14-4. The 14 wins were the most in the history of the program. Cowley also captured its first-ever conference title and won its first-ever playoff game during the 2019 season.
"These have been the best two years of my life," Rubiano said.
Lady Tiger soccer head coach Roberto dos Santos said he was proud of Rubiano for what she has accomplished at Cowley and also for getting this opportunity to play at the next level.
"She took advantage of everything Cowley could provide her," Dos Santos said. "She had a tremendous growth as a person and a player. Shaw University is getting a great student-athlete."
Rubiano has helped Cowley to a No. 15 national ranking and a 3-1 record to start the 2021 season. She hopes to help Cowley make it back-to-back conference titles and qualify for its first-ever national tournament before turning her focus on playing for Shaw University.
"I am ready to start a new chapter in my life, but I will always remember what I learned at Cowley."
