Recording 13 career shutouts and helping the Cowley College women's soccer team to a No. 12 national ranking, sophomore goalkeeper Makayla Farquharson recently signed a letter of intent with NAIA school Mid-America Christian University in Oklahoma City.
The talented keeper from Toronto, Canada will join another winning squad in Mid-America Christian University as the Evangels went 15-3 last season and are currently 4-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
"Coming from a big city in Canada, the campus in Oklahoma City felt like home," Farquharson said. "The coaches' attitudes made me want to go there even more."
At Cowley, Farquharson started all 14 games a season ago as she went 10-3-1 with a 0.97 goal against average. The First Team all-conference selection recorded four shutouts as a freshman.
This season, Farquharson has been even better as she has recorded nine shutouts and posted a 0.62 goal against average as Cowley has posted a record of 12-1-1.
"Cowley has made me a more confident player and made me work harder to be successful," Farquharson said. "I couldn't have done this without my teammates."
Cowley head coach Roberto dos Santos has enjoyed the opportunity to work with Farquharson as the team has ran its string of conference titles to three in a row.
"She has shown so much growth from her first to second year and has taken on a larger leadership role on the team," Dos Santos said. "Mid-America Christian University will be a perfect fit and I am sure she will do great there."
Farquharson plans to major in psychology.
