Lady Tigers shutout 17th-ranked Hutchinson 3-0

The victory improves Cowley's record to 5-2-1 overall, and they are in third place in the Jayhawk Conference, trailing only Butler and Kansas City. Hutchinson (4-2-3) is in fourth place in the conference with a record of 3-2-3.
Wednesday's contest was scoreless for the first 31 minutes before Cowley broke through on a 40-yard free-kick by Mai Line Geffry. The goal rocketed home by Geffry was her first of the season.
The Lady Tigers would add goals from Helene Braren and Hina Suzuki in the first 15 minutes of the second half as they cruised to the 3-0 victory. The goal by Brarern was her fifth of the season, while Suzuki's goal was her team-leading seventh.
"This was a huge win and a total team effort," Cowley head coach Roberto dos Santos said. "I am proud of the girls for sticking to the game plan."
Sophomore goalkeeper Marin Peoples stopped all five shots she faced while recording her third shutout in the past four games. Cowley is 3-0-1 and has allowed only one goal in its past four contests.
After playing three ranked opponents in the last two weeks, Cowley will host last-place Garden City (3-7-1) on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Lady Broncbusters are 0-7-1 in the conference and lost to the Lady Tigers 2-0 on August 31 in Garden City.
"We need to recover and prepare for the second round of the regular season because everybody will be better," dos Santos said.
