Lady Tiger tennis team continues challenging early season schedule

One week after defeating the No. 11-ranked NCAA Division II Washburn Ichabods, the Cowley College women's tennis team stepped up its level of competition in a 4-1 loss at the University of Texas Arlington on Saturday.

"It was a great match," Cowley head coach Marcel Miasato said. "Even though we lost. I felt pretty good with the level of tennis we played and thought the match could have gone either way. Our sophomores, Serena and Akari showed an amazing level of tennis. Akari lost in the third set, and that's when UTA clinched the match. Serena was up in the third set before the match ended. Sofia Karlau also played really well and won the first set in her match at No. 3 singles."

Cowley will be back in action when they play at NCAA Division II Cameron University on Thursday at 2 p.m. Cameron is coached by former Tiger head tennis coach Josh Cobble.

*No. 2 – Pereyra (CC) defeated Ranaivo (UTA) 1-6, 6-4, 4-2 when the match ended,

*No. 3 – Karlau (CC) lost to Ivanduskaia (UTA) 6-4, 7-3 (4).

*No. 4 – Wanjala (CC) lost to Dumitrescu (UTA) 3-6, 3-6.

*No. 5 – Garcia Galian (CC) lost to Novikova (UTA) 1-6, 2-6.

*No. 6 – Arostegui (CC) won by default.
