Cowley tennis teams take on top competition at Spring Break Invitational
Facing several ranked opponents in Texas, the Cowley College men’s and women’s tennis teams got in some good matches while taking part in the Spring Break Invitational held March 12-14 in Tyler, TX.
The No. 2-ranked Lady Tigers continued to show they are among the top teams in the country, going 4-0 and knocking off four ranked opponents. Cowley did not drop a set while defeating No. 9-ranked USC-Sumter 9-0. The Lady Tigers then won all three doubles matches vs. No. 15 Mississippi Gulf Coast and went 5-1 in singles play, winning 8-1.
The Cowley women then defeated third-ranked Tyler Junior College 5-4, and No. 8 Weatherford 9-0 to cap the unbeaten showing in Texas.
The Tiger men defeated No. 15 Jacksonville 9-0 before taking down 10th-ranked Weatherford College 5-4. Cowley also battled hard before losing to third-ranked Eastern Florida State College 6-3, and finishing the weekend with a 5-4 loss against top-ranked Tyler Junior College.
Cowley head coach Marcel Miasato was pleased with his squad's efforts as they faced junior college competition for the first time this season.
"We played a lot of competitive matches and were able to perform really well," Miasato said. "We still have a couple of things to adjust, but overall, I am happy the way that both teams fought this past week."
The Tiger tennis teams will return to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. when they play at Southwestern Baptist University in Bolivar, MO.
