Lady Tiger volleyball signs a talented player from Serbia

The back-to-back national champion Cowley College volleyball program has signed Teodora Cekan from Belgrade, Serbia, to begin her college career in the fall of 2025.

Cekan, a 6-foot-2 opposite/outside hitter, prepped at the Sveti Vasilije Ostorski in Belgrade, Serbia, where she played four sports, including volleyball, basketball, and swimming. In Volleyball, she began playing for the OK Volleyland Volleyball Club from 2014-2022, where she played outside hitter. In 2020, she was a part of the prep team for the Serbian National Team. In 2022, she then joined the OK Roda volleyball club, where she switched to the opposite hitter position. That season, she led her team to the OK Roda to a third-place finish in the championships, was awarded the MVP trophy, and led in total aces. In 2023, she joined the OK Cmjanski volleyball club and was a part of the club until coming to Cowley. That first season, she led her team to first place in the 25 years of Tara Tournament. For her efforts, she was awarded MVP and recorded the team's highest hitting and kills percentage.

"Teo is an exciting player who will add a dominant presence to our offense and defense with her powerful attack and all-around abilities. She is such an impact player who can elevate a match with those abilities and confident play," Cowley head coach Steven Gream said. "Teo can play either pin and also can run a variety of sets that fit perfectly in our offensive system and style of play. In addition to her strong offensive skills on the pins, she also brings to us a solid block, an aggressive back-row attack, strong defensive skills/ball control, and an aggressive serve. She has played high-level volleyball in Serbia, and we look for her to bring that experience and grow in the college game. We are excited to have her as part of our program at Cowley."

Cekan is the daughter of Denis and Ivana Cekan of Belgrade, Serbia.
