Coach’s Comments: "Kat comes to Cowley with high energy, strong coachability, passion for the game, great reading skills, strong serve receive skills, and aggressive play on defense that we look for in our program."
2025 (Freshman): First season at Cowley.
2024 (Freshman): Red-Shirt Season
Before Cowley: Prepped at Robinson High School, where she played four seasons of volleyball. In her senior season, she led her team to the Arkansas 4A State Tournament while recording 180 kills, 183 digs, and 26 aces. For her efforts, she was named All-Conference and All-State Tournament and was awarded the Senator Award, while serving as team captain. In her junior season, she also led her team to the 4A State Tournament. Off the court, Mizell also competed in soccer for two years as a keeper, where she led her team to the Arkansas 4A State Tournament and finished runner-up to the state championship. She also competed in softball for two years as she served as pitcher for the program. Mizell also competed for the volleyball club 501 Volley to enhance her volleyball skills in preparation for college play. In academics, she was named to the All-A Honor Roll, National Honors Society, NSHSS, and served as a Student Council Representative and was a member of the Principal’s cabinet.

Fighting back from a two-set-to-one deficit against No. 3-seed Parkland College, the No. 6-seed Cowley College volleyball team rallied to advance to the semifinals of the NJCAA Division II Volleyball National Championships in Cedar Rapids, IA, with a 25-22, 17-25, 20-25, 25-21, 15-9 win over the Cobras on Thursday night inside Alliant Energy Powerhouse.
In a rematch of last year’s national championship match, the third-seeded Johnson County Cavaliers rallied from two sets down to defeat second-seeded Cowley College 22-25, 20-25, 25-17, 25-23, 15-12 in the District B Plains Title Match played Sunday afternoon inside W.S. Scott Auditorium.
Entering the program’s 50th season, high expectations are in store for the Cowley College volleyball program. The team is coming off a very successful 2024 season that resulted in back-to-back undefeated NJCAA National Tournament National Championships, a Plains District Championship, a 41-0 overall record with a 10-0 conference record, and continued the longest consecutive win streak at 81 consecutive matches won.
