Darvas among those to receive conference honors
Allen Community College and Cowley College led this week’s Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 2 Volleyball Player of the Week award winners, with Red Devil players Maria Santana and Audrey Peek being joined by Lady Tiger Hanna Darvas for their first Player of the Week honors of the season.
Darvas was named the KJCCC D2 Volleyball Setter of the Week after averaging 13.17 assists per set last week, including a season high 48 assists in a 3-1 win against Seminole State. The sophomore recorded her second double-double of the season against the Trojans by adding 15 digs. For the week, Darvas recorded four kills and hit .364 to go along with one service ace. Defensively, Darvas recorded three blocks that also led to scoring for the Tigers and had an average of 3.50 digs per set. This season, Darvas leads KJCCC Division 2 in assists per set at 11.04.
Santana was named the KJCCC D2 Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week as she led the Allen offense to a pair of wins last week, including a five-set upset of No. 17 Northeastern Oklahoma A&M to propel the Red Devils to a 10-2 overall record, which has ACC receiving votes in this week's NJCAA Division 2 Top-25 poll. The freshman tallied 25 total kills on a .396 hitting percentage with two service aces and one set assist, while adding six blocks defensively.
Peek was named the KJCCC D2 Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week. Peek was a defensive presence last week for Allen Community College as the Red Devils swept a road match at Coffeyville before earning a five-set home win over number 17-ranked Northeastern Oklahoma A&M to finish the week 2-0. Recording 41 total digs with an average of 5.13 digs per set, Peek also had a perfect reception percentage on 38 total attempts while adding one service ace for Allen. Peek leads the KJCCC D2 in digs per set with 6.50 and ranks second in total digs with 312.
