Lady Tigers go 4-0 at KCK Tournament, run winning streak to 94
Improving its record to 13-0 on the season, the No. 1-ranked Cowley College volleyball team won all four matches they played at the Kansas City, Kansas Community College Tournament played on Friday and Saturday in Kansas City, KS.
The Lady Tigers, winners of 94 matches in a row, opened the tournament with wins over Southwestern Community College (25-13, 25-17, 25-9) and Park University JV (25-12, 25-18, 25-18) on Friday.
Sophomore Josci Buckley had 11 kills in both matches on Friday, while sophomore setter Hanna Darvas (32 assists, 10 digs) and freshman outside hitter Lana Gomilanovic (13 kills, 13 digs) had a double-double in the win over Park University JV.
Darvas added two more double-doubles in wins over previously unbeaten Morton College (25-11, 25-18, 25-20) and No. 9-ranked Iowa Central Community College (25-22, 25-16, 25-12).
"Our team defense and aggressive serve caused a lot of problems on the weekend," Cowley head coach Steven Gream said.
Buckley had her third match of the weekend with 11 kills in the victory over Morton, and freshman Cassie Ellegood (11 kills, five aces) and Tessa Mossburd (15 digs) came up big in the win over Iowa Central.
"Cassie had a great weekend and helped us balance the attack with her aggressive swings," Gream said.
Gomilanovic again had 13 kills in the win over Iowa Central.
"Lana gave us quality kills at key times," Gream said.
Cowley will return to conference play when it hosts Highland on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The Scotties are 18-3 overall and 2-1 in the Jayhawk Conference.
"Highland is much improved and very scrappy on defense," Gream said. "We need to make sure we are composed, balance our attack, and play like we are capable of playing."
