Mossburg named KJCCC D2 Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
After battling one another in a top-five showdown, the Johnson County Community College and Cowley College volleyball teams both finished off their weeks with strong play over the weekend, as Cavalier players Avery Ringgenberg and Campbell Chabot, along with Tiger defensive specialist Tessa Mossburg, have all picked up week five Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 2 Volleyball Player of the Week awards.
Tessa Mossburg (Cowley) – KJCCC D2 Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Mossburg averaged 4.92 digs per set on the week, reaching double-figures in all four matches against NJCAA competition. The freshman recorded a 2.3 passer rating on the week again, including a 2.25 passer rating against No. 5-ranked 5 Johnson County and a 2.00 passer rating against No. 9 Iowa Central. This season, Mossburg has totaled 135 digs and is averaging 4.09 digs per set against NJCAA foes (11 matches) as she has helped the No. 1-ranked Lady Tigers to a record of 13-0.
Avery Ringgenberg (Johnson County) - KJCCC D2 Volleyball Player of the Week
Johnson County outside/right-side hitter Avery Ringgenberg turned in a dominant week for the number five-ranked Cavalier volleyball team, helping JCCC to a 3-1 record. Ringgenberg totaled 57 kills while hitting an impressive .514 across the four matches and added 13 digs and eight blocks. Opening the week against top-ranked Cowley, Ringgenberg was the only JCCC hitter to reach double figures, finishing with 11 kills and a stellar .647 attack percentage in a defeat to the Tigers. Ringgenberg followed with 13 kills on a .524 clip and five digs in a 3-1 win over number 25 Central on Friday night before delivering 14 kills while hitting .480, along with six digs and three blocks in a 3-1 victory over Lincoln Land in her first of two matches on Saturday. The sophomore closed the week with limited action against Northeast, recording five kills and hitting .364 in a 3-0 sweep. For the season, Ringgenberg is hitting .368 with 131 total kills.
Campbell Chabot (Johnson County) – KJCCC D2 Volleyball Setter of the Week
Freshman setter Campbell Chabot fueled the Cavaliers' attack last week, dishing out 157 assists to add to her conference-leading total. Chabot posted 25 assists against number one and defending national champion Cowley, followed by a season-high 57 in a 3-1 win over number 25 Central. Her performance against the Raiders is tied for the seventh-most assists in a single match in JCCC volleyball history. Chabot continued her strong play with 40 assists in a 3-1 victory over Lincoln Land and 35 in a 3-0 sweep of Northeast, pushing her league-best total to 592. The freshman also contributed defensively with 33 digs, reaching double figures in all three Cavalier wins.
