Cowley's Jaccard, Barton's Kaneko earn NJCAA Volleyball Player of the Week Accolades
For the first time this season, a pair of Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference volleyball players have earned national accolades. Cowley’s Ashlynn Jaccard and Barton’s Mina Kaneko have been named NJCAA Volleyball Players of the Week.
Ashlynn Jaccard (Cowley) - NJCAA D2 Volleyball Player of the Week
Jaccard had a monster week, leading the top-ranked Cowley volleyball team to a perfect 5-0 week while being named to the Cowley Invitational Tournament All-Tournament team. Hitting .645 for the week with 41 kills on 62 total swings, Jaccard averaged 2.73 kills per set as a middle hitter and provided seven service aces and eight total blocks. This season, Jaccard leads all NJCAA Division 2 volleyball players in attack percentage (.603).
Mina Kaneko (Barton) – NJCAA D1 Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Sophomore libero Mina Kaneko anchored number eight Barton's defense with 64 digs across 12 sets, averaging 5.33 per set while adding 12 assists and a service ace in three road matches for the Cougars. Kaneko opened the week with 14 digs in a sweep at Pratt, posted 26 digs in a five-set battle at number 12 Colby, and then concluded the week by adding 24 digs in a four-set win at Garden City.
