Volleyball continues to roll in advance of a key week of games
Getting contributions from everyone on its roster, the No. 1-ranked Cowley College volleyball team picked up a pair of home wins on Friday to remain unbeaten on the season.
The Lady Tigers, 21-0 on the season, have now won 102 matches in a row dating back to the 2022 campaign.
On Friday, Cowley defeated Northeast Community College 25-16, 25-17, 25-20 before taking down Rose State College 25-11, 25-17, 25-11.
"We got some different people playing time, and I thought we did well executing our game plan," Cowley head coach Steven Gream said.
Freshman middle hitter Cassie Ellegood led the Lady Tigers with 11 kills and 10 digs in the win over Northeast Community College.
"A double-double for a middle is almost impossible," Gream said.
Lana Gomilanovic also had a double-double in the win over Northeast, finishing with 12 kills and 10 digs.
Sophomore outside hitter Josci Buckley added 12 kills and seven digs in the opening match before tacking on 10 kills in the win over Rose State.
"Once she got over the ankle injury, she has done a good job of leading our offense and has been a steady force for us," Gream said.
Freshman Brooklyn Wuest made the most of her two sets against Rose State, finishing with a team-high 11 kills.
"Brooklyn came in and was fantastic," Gream said.
Freshman setter Sydney Dunkleberger also played well in her two sets, finishing with 32 assists.
"Sydney came in and did a good job," Gream said. "It was good for us to give some players a little rest and prepare some other players for the week ahead."
Cowley will host a key conference match against No. 17-ranked Neosho County (16-7) on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The Panthers are 3-2 in the Jayhawk Conference with both losses coming against top-10 teams, Johnson County and Kansas City Kansas Community College.
"Neosho is nationally ranked and a very good team," Gream said. "We need to execute our game plan and enter the match prepared for a battle."
