Cowley volleyball sweeps weekly conference honors
After playing four matches against NJCAA Division 2 volleyball-ranked foes as part of a five-match week, Cowley College has swept the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 2 Volleyball Player of the Week awards, with Ashlynn Jaccard, Hanna Darvas, and Tessa Mossburg picking up this week’s honors.
Ashlynn Jaccard (Cowley) - KJCCC D2 Volleyball Player of the Week
Jaccard averaged nearly three kills per set and had a .470 attack percentage across five matches last week, which included four matches against ranked opponents. After starting the week with a career-high 15 kills and a .737 attack percentage in a home win over number 16 Neosho County, Jaccard went on to record 32 kills across four matches at the Heartland CC Invitational while adding six service aces, 10 digs, and six total blocks over the weekend. Cowley's matches at the Heartland Invitational included a five-set win over number six-ranked Parkland and a sweep of Hawkeye Community College, in addition to defeats to number three Heartland and number four Kirkwood.
Hanna Darvas (Cowley) – KJCCC D2 Volleyball Setter of the Week
Darvas played 15 of Cowley's 18 sets last week, averaging 10.60 assists per set as the Tigers played four of their five matches against teams ranked in the latest NJCAA Division 2 Top-25 poll. After providing a season-high 50 assists in a four-set home win over conference foe and number 16-ranked Neosho County, Darvas went on to record matches of 37 assists against number six Parkland, 32 assists against number three Heartland, 17 assists against Hawkeye, and 23 assists against number four Kirkwood. The match against Heartland was a double-double for Darvas as the sophomore also had 10 digs and finished the week with 32 total digs, nine blocks, and seven kills in addition to her 159 total set assists.
Tessa Mossburg (Cowley) – KJCCC D2 Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Mossburg averaged 5.25 digs per set across five matches, with four of the matches coming against ranked foes in the latest NJCAA Division 2 Top 25 poll. After recording a career-high 30 digs in a four-set win over number 16 Neosho County, Mossburg had three other matches with at least 10 digs, including 20 in a five-set victory over number six Parkland, and had a .983 reception percentage with 117 receptions in 119 attempts. This season, Mossburg averages 4.58 digs per set and has 362 total digs in 26 matches.
