Lady Tigers begin a new streak with a win at Labette
Falling out of the top spot in the NJCAA Division II rankings for the first time since the 2023 season, the No. 3-ranked Cowley College volleyball team won at Labette on Wednesday by scores of 25-16, 25-10, 25-21.
After having its 104-match win streak come to an end, the Lady Tigers are now 25-2 overall and 7-0 in the Jayhawk Conference.
"It felt good to get the bad taste out of our mouth from last weekend," Cowley head coach Steven Gream said. "We needed some confidence going into this weekend."
Labette falls to 19-15 overall and 2-5 in the conference. Allie Rushing's eight kills led the Cardinals.
Teo Cekan's 12 kills led Cowley. Lana Gomilanovic added 11 kills, while Josci Buckley and Ashlyn Jaccard chipped in with nine and six kills, respectively.
After losing in straight sets to No. 2-ranked Kirkwood Community College two weeks ago, Cowley will face Kirkwood again, one of three teams they will play at the Iowa Central Tourney this weekend.
"We will be playing three good teams in North Dakota State College of Science, Kirkwood, and (No. 15-ranked) Des Moines Area Community College," Gream said. "We should be a little fresher when we face Kirkwood, and we have made adjustments to get ready for this weekend."
