Darvas concludes stellar career with AVCA All-American honors
After another dominating season as setter for the nationally ranked Cowley College volleyball team, sophomore Hanna Darvas was selected Two-Year First Team All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). This selection is her second AVCA First Team All-American selection in her career.
Darvas helped Cowley to 32 wins and a fourth-place national finish as she ended the 2025 season with 1,318 assists and 283 digs. She led the NJCAA Division II in assists per set.
"Hanna was a decorated setter who came back for her sophomore year and led our team on and off the court," Cowley College head coach Steven Gream said. "She had a great freshman season and then got to work last spring, determined to enhance her skills for another run at a national championship. Hanna served as a great leader on the court and was a determined player who brought great skill, a high volleyball IQ, and the ability to anticipate things before they happened. She was like an extension of the coaches on the floor. She was already one of the top setters in the nation, but her adjustments and additions made her one of the top players in the nation on one of the top offenses in the nation."
The selection moves the Lady Tigers' streak to nine consecutive years of having a player named an AVCA All-American. Cowley has had 16 players in program history receive the honor with a total of 20 AVCA All-American awards.
The honor is for all two-year schools in the nation and includes players from the NJCAA D-I, D-II, NJCAA D-III, the California Community College Athletic Association, and the Northwest Athletic Conference, totaling nearly 500 programs. Players who received All-America honors in each league were put together and voted on to make one of the three All-America teams. Each of the three AVCA All-America teams is comprised of 15 athletes. Of the 45 selections, nine players were selected from the NJCAA D-II ranks. Five total Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) athletes were selected All-American — Stasa Stamenkovic from Barton (Second Team), Sanoma Hunter from Kansas City Kansas (Second Team), Amanda Caputi from Colby (Third Team), and Ava Esser from Johnson County (Third Team).
"The AVCA is a prestigious organization that works each day to promote the sport and the players," Gream said. "This honor is very special in that it is not only for our very competitive NJCAA D-II league, but all of the two-year college leagues combined. So, for Hanna to receive this honor is very exceptional and exciting to see her honored among the top players in the nation in 2025."
