Lady Tigers place eighth out of 30 teams at Chile Pepper Festival
Taking part in its largest meet of the season, the No. 2-ranked Cowley College women’s cross country team placed eighth out of 30 teams at the Chile Pepper Invitational held Saturday at the University of Arkansas.
Taking part in its largest meet of the season, the No. 2-ranked Cowley College women's cross country team placed eighth out of 30 teams at the Chile Pepper Invitational held Saturday at the University of Arkansas.
The meet consisted of several strong NAIA and NCAA Division II schools. Oklahoma Christian University's Kenya Bailey won the women's 3.1-mile race with a time of 17:55.6, while Oklahoma Christian placed second as a team behind only Hastings College.
Lady Tiger sophomore Karissa Glover led Cowley by placing 15th out of 237 runners with a time of 19:21.5. Kristen Wilson also ran well and placed 38th with a time of 20:10.0, while Delicia Boothe (20:28.4) placed 50th. Yazmin Reyes (20:32.7) was just behind in 54th place.
"Yazmin Reyes threw down a massive personal best by around 40 seconds," Cowley head coach Cameron Rieth said. "She went out and fought hard for it and really surprised herself. We are trending in the right direction as a team, we will just need everyone to continue to take care of each other and show up when it counts."
Other Cowley runners were, Asaris Dandicourt-Goire (22:50.3), Layla Ingalls (23:49.4), and Karstyn Nolan (25:55.9).
Cowley will return to action Saturday when they compete at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open held at the Sand Plum Nature Trail in Victoria, KS.
