Trio of All-Americans has Lady Tigers eighth at national tournament
The Cowley College Lady Tigers got off to a fast start at the NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships held Thursday at Gowns Stadium in Hutchinson, KS. Led by three All-Americans, Cowley is in eighth place after day one of competition.
"It was a great day one for us on the women's side,: Cowley head coach Cameron Rieth said. "Marcedes (Sadie) Glover placed sixth overall in the women's hammer and was named All-American. Bri Lee threw a half-meter personal best in the hammer and was just shy of being in the finals."
Cowley got two All-Americans out of the women's pole vault. Dakota Dapper was fourth overall, and Kennedy Kizarr was eighth.
Grace Knight also performed well and ran the sixth-best time in program history with a huge personal best, but could not advance out of the prelims.
On the men's side, Dagan Geier is sitting in 12th place with 3,137 points after five events in the decathlon, which will conclude on Friday. Ranaldo Hanna finished 10th overall in the men's long jump, and Jacob Haney finished 15th in the men's hammer.
New Mexico Junior College is in first place in the women's team standings with 27 points. The Lady Tigers scored nine team points on day one.
Indian Hills Community College (27 points) leads the men's standings, with New Mexico Junior College in second place with 15 points.
