An extraordinary group of former athletes and teams from the three Putnam City (OK) District high schools is set to be inducted into the 2026 Putnam City Schools Athletics Hall of Fame class, the committee announced Monday. Among the inductees is Ashly (Bright) Giddens, a two-time All-American softball player at Cowley College.

For the second time in as many days, the second-seed Cowley College softball team struck early and then watched sophomore pitcher Dacey Morris spin a complete game shutout as the Lady Tigers defeated third-seed Kansas City Kansas Community College 5-0 on Thursday at the Region VI Tournament in Overland Park, KS.

After a pair of extra inning games earlier in the day pushed the start of its game back more than three hours, the second-seed Cowley College softball team did not let the delay affect them as they got a complete game shutout from sophomore Dacey Morris and three doubles from freshman Hannah Howard in a 4-0 victory over seventh-seed Neosho County on Wednesday in the First Round of the Region VI Tournament played in Overland Park, KS.

One out away from sweeping a doubleheader at Cloud County on Thursday, the Cowley College softball team allowed the T-Birds to score five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning of game two to defeat the Lady Tigers and earn a split of the two games. Cowley run-ruled Cloud 12-3 in game one before losing 8-7 in the nightcap.

The Lady Tigers won the first game 4-0 before taking game two 8-5.

Softball continues offensive onslaught with doubleheader sweep of Coffeyville

After scoring double figures in both wins of a home doubleheader against Independence on Thursday, the Cowley College softball team kept the offensive momentum going by scoring a season-high 21 runs in a 21-5 five-inning run-rule of Coffeyville Community College on Saturday at Ed Hargrove Field before run-ruling the Red Ravens 11-3 in game two.

Aided by Breanna Curry’s home-run saving catch in the top of the seventh inning of game two of its home doubleheader against Independence on Thursday, the Cowley College softball team then got a walk-off home run by Carsen Carpenter in the bottom of the seventh to help the Lady Tigers sweep the doubleheader 14-1 and 10-9 and earn head coach Jenny Hoyt her 400th career win.
